One Candle On The Cake

My blog is one year old today.

Pretty soon my blog will be walking. Then before you know it my blog will be going to school...then I'll blink and it'll be going on its first date...getting married...and having little blogs of its own.

They grow up so fast....*sniff*

I want to say that I greatly appreciate each and every one of you that read this thing on a regular basis. I look forward to your comments, even if they just say 'Hi!' or 'That's funny!' or 'You make too many faces!' or 'I think Canadians are maple syrup eatin' hosers!'.

I've discovered that I love writing way more than I thought I did. And I think I'm kind of good at it. :)

Whether it's writing about my garden, cooking, my work, or random things that make me think...I love it. I know that I've lost people along the way when I changed to writing about more than just gardening, but I think I've also gained a few readers that I might not otherwise have attracted. So it all comes out in the wash, as Chuckles likes to say. I think if I had a chance to name my blog all over again it would be "I Blogged Your Mom".

I've met so many cool people online. Most of you I've never met (and probably never will meet) in person, but I still consider you my friends. I'll even bring you up in conversation.

A few examples:

"So my friend Turling got a beer brewing kit for Christmas...'

or

"So my friend IG eats pork vaginas..."

or

"So my friend Bub is a twat magnet..."

or

"So my Canadian friend Joy's son married an American..."

or

"So my friend Steve works for a bookstore too, and he said..."

or

"So my friend Prairie Chicken runs a lot and it's making me jealous..."

I think all of you have turned up in conversation at LEAST once.

Is that weird? Some women are crazy cat ladies with 80 cats. I'm a crazy internet lady with 80 readers.

I think that's much better than being a crazy cat lady. I don't have to worry about feeding you, and you never crap in my shoes.

Except for that one incident with Al. Just because you're a famous novelist now, doesn't mean you can act like you were born in a barn.

I noticed that my daffodils are popping through the soil in my front flower bed. Feels like I just said goodbye to my spring flowers, and here they are again. The gardening spark is kindling. I lose it over the summer when the sweltering heat hits, but once the Christmas tree is down it comes back. You'll see plenty of pictures from my yard very soon.

And on a final, positive note, the temporary manager position I've been holding for the last 5 months was made permanent yesterday. This promotion has really made me proud of all the hard work I've put in. Ever had a 5 month long job interview? Grueling. But worth it! *pats self on back*

Anyway...

"Happy Birthday dear Blo-ooooog...Happy Birthday to you!"

One year, already! I remember when you first started. You are growing up so fast. :)hehe. Congrats on the job, too.

Hi Kyna,

Congrats on the bloggaversary - and of course the permenant promotion.

Love the alternative blog name, that would've been amazing, just imagine the lurking sexual predators you might attract!

Good news on the Daffodils, no such luck here!

Happy blogovesery to you. And congrats on the promo. Happy New year. jim

Congratulations on the job! And Happy Blogaversary!

Dear Kyna, Congratulations!Your promotion is long overdue, indeed you desrve a medal for politeness over and above the call of duty. As for the blog, this writing lark is not as easy as it looks but you're a natural. Many happy returns.

(Wait a minute, I've just got to clean my screen - I just spat my coffee all over it *snort*)

To The Bet Lynch Wannabe,

Aww, one year old. Bless. I can't remember how I found your blog, but I'm very glad I did.

Blogging about things other than gardening may have lost you followers, but branching out (heh) to write about other stuff allows us to get to know you better. Which, in my opinion, is a good thing.

Congratulations on the promotion - well deserved, and you are quite right to pat yourself on the back. Well done!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I do the same thing about my blog friends. "My friend in Minnesota said..." or "My friend in North Carolina said..." or "My friend in Tanzania said..." I think I'm so cool.

Also, I look forward to your new posts very much. You are an excellent writer, and I am extremely critical and a former editor. (trust me, I notice all misspellings and typos and snort dirisively at them.

;-)

Hope you keep the passion for a long time.

Happy birthday and new jobday too.

I wrote you a poem to celebrate:

"Kyna, Kyna,
Ford Cortina,
Never lend your baby
To a hyena"

That's all I've got, I'm afraid!

One year! Congratulations for sticking with it. I know this writing gig is more work than I had bargained for. I actually really like the new name, you know it's never too late to change ;)

Amy: Actually, you were one of the readers I thought I'd lost! lol Thank you for the comment and the congrats :D

Liz: I attract enough at work, I probably don't need to be helped along by my blog title. Maybe it's best that I stay Crystal Coast Gardener ;)

Chuck and I were driving home last week, and I mentioned that it ought to be time for my daffodils to be coming up, and he scoffed and said, 'Nah'. When we pulled in the driveway, I dragged him over to the flower bed, bent down and brushed aside the dead leaves...and there they were just popping through the soil. I love a chance to look at him and say 'HAH!' :)

Jim: Thank you so much, happy new year! :D

Alison: Well hello there, I don't think I've met you before. I could be wrong, I have a memory like a goldfish. I'm glad I have now though, you have a new follower! :) Love your blog, I'll be back :)

Is: Thank you! It was funny...yesterday, everyone was congratulating me, and it happened to be one of the most effed up days with a ton of call outs...people sick, people injured, people with kids that were sick...everything that could go wrong did. One co-worker turned to me and said, 'Tough first day, huh?' lol. I love it though. My new title is 'Merchandise Manager'. That means I get to be creative. Which makes me happy :)

Bub: One can never have too much leopard print, in my opinion. The toughest part of becoming Ms Lynch is taking up smoking. I don't think Chuck's lung stump will be very happy about my decision...:P

I think I found your blog. Was it through IG maybe? Maybe. I just remember that your blog name really caught me eye. That's why I wish I had named mine something else, because Crystal Coast Gardener is kind of a snorer. Oh well. I'm afraid to change it now, because that's what everyone knows me as. And I'm afraid I'll choose something lame again. Maybe i'll hold a 'Rename My Blog' contest lol.

Melissa: I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that then lol. Makes me feel so wordly to say, 'My friend in Australia' I guess lol ;)

Thank you for your compliments. Bad spelling irks me too. I reread my blog posts about 20 times before I post it, and then about 5 times after that. Just to catch typos. Even if my post has been up for 3 days and I catch a typo, I'll still edit it even though everyone who's going to read it has probably read it.

IG: Thank goodness my name isn't Hortense or something. That would have made it really hard to rhyme.

And thank goodness my name is pronounced Keena. I'd rather be Kyna Hyena than Kyna Vagina.

Thanks for the poem, I'm sure you put hours of work into it ;)

Marguerite: I've always had a problem with change. I'm even afraid to change the way my blog looks, even though I want to. I'm worried I won't like it, or everyone else won't like it.

Look at the GAP trying to change its logo, and there was a public outcry. I don't think I could deal with that ;) lol

Kyna said...

Allison: Oh wait, you were the one with the cat picture on your profile? Maybe?

See? Goldfish memory.

Happy Blogoversary Kyna! Just noticed my daffs popping up too, right after the construction guy working on our house...ran over them :( Hope your daffodils are safer than mine!

Congratulations on both counts, Kyna - the job and the blog!

You have the BEST BLOG on the planet.

Everyone on the planet READS YOUR BLOG.

Several of your posts have averted NUCLEAR WAR somewhere on the planet.

Your blog is being beamed into DEEP SPACE where OTHER BEINGS are now discovering your pearls of WISDOM.

A friend of mine with a broken ankle READ THIS POST, threw down her crutches and RAN screaming from the room. Eventually she limped back and brought me my meds.

Apparently I've written this entire comment without them. (Manic? Me? MANIC????)

Thank goodness I didn't submit it!
(Oh crap, I think I did...) :-P

Kyna said...

You know what I love about you Kris? You're just as effing crazy as I am :D

So happy to have miraculously cured your friend with my writing. Eventually she'll discover that she can now juggle and write with her feet. At the SAME TIME.

Aha, but imagine if the Vagina was called the Vageena? And if the penis was called the Peneena!

Now, that would be a poem and a half!

Kyna said...

Keena Vageena Paneena sounds like a Latina dancer. The kind that wears a hat full of fake fruit on her head.

Congrats on the blog and the job! Wow, that was almost a poem...!

I can't speak about your daffodils right now as we have a major storm warning in effect here. Gah!

Enjoy the coming year. :)

Happy Bloggiversary! =) It's been a delight sharing your fabulously freaky life. Most entertaining. Patting yourself on the back is not only good for you, it stretches your triceps out nicely, too, so it counts as exercise, yes? =) Looking forward with bated (but brushed) breath to all your posts for the next 365! =) xo
(ps the word verification for this commment is "catho." The mind reels.)

Kyna said...

Ms S: Thanks!

I guess it's going to be a long wait for the May long weekend planting period, eh? :(

Biobabs: I don't know if my life is fabulously freaky, it's actually kind of boring. It's only fabulously freaky in MY MIND O_O

Glad you enjoy reading, nice to share a blog birthday with you :D

Look at you go. I even got a mention. Look at me go! Congratulations on one year and many more to come, yada, yada, yada. I really should be toasting I think. Where's my beer?

Diana Studer said...

'my life is only fabulously freaky in my mind' = good writing skills! I started with your gardening via Blotanical, but I stay for the window on your life posts. Only a year? Never! This blog is about to have a little blog called I Blogged Your Mom. Congratulations four times, losing count here ...

Happy 1st Blogaversary! I love reading your posts, especially about your customers (at the book store :) that is) It's changed the way I think about the B and N by me, and made me afraid to take my kids in the bathroom for fear of what might be in there.
Congrats on your promotion too!

A colleague of mine would love your blog....especially the quotes. Her podium has several that you've written here. 3. You are an observer of the human condition.....noticing and tolerating their strange quirks. Keep up the awesome observations and line quotes. Feliz cumpleaños!:)
