I was very unhappy that it was raining on my day off, and whining about it.
Well guess what? Karma's a biyatch.
We are rapidly moving towards drought conditions in Coastal NC, if we aren't in it already.
Everything looks like crap most of the time. The wisteria wasn't as beautiful or plentiful this year. The azaleas looked good for about 3 days and then started wilting in the heat. Our grass looks like dookie. And I use the term 'grass' loosely, because it doesn't even resemble the stuff it's so burnt up.
My southern magnolia! Oh, that poor thing. Usually it's very drought tolerant, but this year it looks sad. Magnolias normally drop quite a few leaves, but this year mine's on it's way to being bald, and only has one flower on it. Last year it had made it up to 5 flowers.
I'm trying to water as much as I can, but I bet they're gonna put a ration into effect soon.
I'm about to start calling on some of my Native ancestry and do a rain dance...
There are a few things in my garden that are looking good (or were, because I took these a few days ago).
My "Bell'Aroma" hybrid tea.
It always looks best in May. After that, it gets double-teamed and decimated by japanese beetles and black spot disease. I can't believe it comes back so well every year.
Chuck bought me an azalea for Mother's Day last year, and this year the blooms on it were so beautiful!! Very unique ruffle, cool spots on the inside of the flower (sorry I'm not very technical in my description). I caught them just a little late with the camera, they were fading a little...
And my irises are JUST about done now, but these giant purple ones are the last to go. They're bigger than my hand! :)
Cross your fingers for us that it rains soon, or I won't have too many pretty pictures to show!
I'm going to end this on a performance by Blind Melon on Muchmusic in 1995. Oh how I miss Muchmusic...MTV sucks.

Pretty rose and what an amazing giant iris! The hybrid teas have always made me cry, thanks to Japanese beetles and blackspot. That must be a tough one to look good at least a few months of the year. Your azalea reminds me of the 'Red Ruffles' I have in my garden. It's one of the few azaleas that can take the Florida climate.
I too am longing for rain....... We have a 50% chance next Tuesday. Please............
We are getting more rain than we need. I wish I could send some your way! My iris and roses are just coming into bud. I hope they look as good as yours, if only for a short time.
Your roses and azaleas are lovely! I have an iris that looks just like that! It is huge, same color and everything.

Oh Kyna, I hope you get some rain soon, so your plants can rejuvenate themselves. Those Iris are amazing! I can't get over the size of those blooms...but then again, when I plant Iris, they get eaten by the gophers, so I've never seen mine bloom :P
Either those irises are big, or you have very small hands, like a midget or something even smaller!
Alas, IG, you've uncovered my secret. I'm only 2 feet tall. I actually live underneath the iris foliage, hobbit-style. Explains my penchant for second breakfast....O_O

We were in the same boat here in the Houston area Kyna. But it happened that a group of us who blog at HoustonGrows.com had a meetup and plant swap yesterday. And while we were there we did a rain dance. And boy, did it work! We got a wild thunderstorm and two inches of rain! The garden is looking a little soggy, but grateful today. I hope you get some rain soon.
I hope you get rain soon! My call for rain brought a giant dump of snow on May 5! Ah well, my garden was still delighted. Love your azaleas!

We have had a wet year so far, and I am grateful after the terrible drought we had a couple years ago. I do hope you have received rain by now. Your flowers are lovely!

It seems like that's how it was for us last summer. Just when we finally got a nice warm one, it was so dry the plants looked awful. Your roses and iris sure do look happy. Hope the rain dance works!
It hasn't rained here since like March, but today it rained a ridiculous amount. I hope it travelled up and rained on you too.
WOW!! Your roses are GORGEOUS and that iris is to die for! Its size alone is incredible, let alone the color!. Alas, my garden has faultered too due to the heat and drought, although it finally rained yesterday. This too shall pass. However, didn't you have a really long drought last year? I can't remember for certain...I know Georgia did. Well, here's wishing you a wonderful summer!
