What Are You Listening To? Wednesday

Fell in love with this The Kinks' "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" when I first heard it.

This is a shortened live 1973 version of the 1966 song.

"Let's really have a laugh. No one's here for art.' Hehe. Ray Davies is a cheeky monkey. I love that guy.

The lyrics paint such a vivid picture of a flamboyant slave to clothing trends...fitting that it's song by a bunch of lads wearing things like purple velvet coats or a blue shirt with red pants. Ah, the 70's...

Fun Fact: Singer Ray Davies was shot in the leg in New Orleans in 2004 whilst chasing down a dude that had snatched his companion's purse. Just found that out, and I thought I'd share.

Oh, and he has a daughter with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders. Another fun fact.

I've played guitar mediocrely since I was 14, and this is one of my favourite songs to butcher.

It's impossible to be frowning whilst singing out loud to this song. Had a bad day? I did.

Belt it out!

'Oh yes he is!...Oh yes HE IS!'

I feel better already :)

You KNOW I love the Kinks because they sing my Lola's theme song! :)

Here's another fun fact; I have seen Chrissie Hynde taking a dump. I walked in on her (inadvertently) at a party. She was also in the Moors Murders, a band that was photographed with bin bags over their heads.

I did fancy her a bit in the late 1970s, until I saw her straining one out. It never really worked after that.

Kyna girl what happened to make your day BAD ? I know .. just about anything that crosses your path the wrong way can push a few naughty mad buttons right ? especially in heat and humidity throw in menopausal and you have a stark raving mad lunatic .. oops .. we were talking about you right ?? hehehe
I am a teenager from the 70's .. so I kind of know what you are talking about .. did I say that out loud again ... jeez !
Hey .. buck up princess .. things always have to get better some time .. right ?? I checked my lottery tickets and we are SO due to win after so many years (I know .. if I saved all the money I invested ? in lottery tickets .. we would be millionaires now ? .. I hate that saying .. lets not go there ?)
OK .. my rant is over .. time for more coffee and a different rant some where else ? wink wink

Kimberly: Haha, yeah. No matter how many times I hear that song, I still like it. 'You Really Got Me' could be played a little less though...

IG: Oops, I knew I was spelling 'Chrissie' wrong and I was lazy in checking. Can you tell I'm not a fan?

You've just made my day with that story. Chuck loves her...he was just happy to stand near her at one of her concerts one time. Can't wait to tell him.

Another fun fact: she now owns a vegan restaurant in Ohio. Maybe she got tired of all the constipation? Veggies'll clean you right out, won't they?

Joy: One of my friends said it was the approaching huricane making everyone's energy 'off'. Hey, I had to believe in something, because nothing was going right.

First thing that happened was a little kid spilled an entire slushy drink on the carpeted floor...a bright GREEN one, that I had the fortune to clean up. Went downhill from there...

But then I watched the Kinks video and I cheered right up!

I don't believe anyone's told me'buck up princess' ever. LOL I guess that's why they call you 'Joy', eh? ;)

I love The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset is one of my favourite songs, and I always sing it if I have occasion to cross the bridge. And of course this song - yes, they all look dedicated followers of fashion there, don't they?!
