I'm Working On My Purple Belt In Zumba

Actually, I think I'm working on my purple face in Zumba.

If you don't know what Zumba is, I'll tell you (if I can catch my breath).

My friend Andie invited me to her Zumba class as her guest this morning. For my first time ever. It's a new-ish exercise craze that is a cross between Latin dancing, aerobics, kickboxing, and good old fashioned calisthenics.

Actually, it's mainly ass-shaking. Mystikal style. You shake your ass....rotate your hips in a circle...shake ya ass...do some roundhouse kicks....shake ya ass....do some pelvic thrusts...shake ya ass...

You get the picture. Of my ass.

In fact...*peers over her shoulder*...I do believe it's still jiggling. Like the aftershocks of an earthquake.

What am I on about?

Well, I really should have entitled this post, 'Things I've Been Doing Instead Of Gardening".

Look at this crap. If you can even see it. Through all the weeds.

I feel like someone has stolen my garden mojo. Or at least my will to pull weeds and make my garden pretty.

It's been so hot and rainless, and I've been trying to keep up with watering...I just don't have the energy to pull the weeds.

I know, excuses, excuses. But when there hasn't been a day below 90F/32C with humidity that makes it feel much hotter for a month straight...it wears on you.

And suddenly you find other things to do. Inside things. Air conditioned things.

Things like friggin' Zumba.

Dear God, I never want to eat a cheeseburger ever again.

But I do hope someone will find my garden mojo and return it.

Amen.

I feel ya on the heat and not wanting to fool with the gardens. I have been in the same boat of whining about the relentless heat. Finally we are getting a few showers over the past few days providing some relief. I have neglected mine too but I was back in the gardens yesterday. Have a great 4th of July.

Happy Canada Day Knya. Perhaps your Mojo went North for the Holidays! I was born in Canada, brought up in Ireland and now live in California - my Mojo goes walkabout all the time...

I think we'll be in the same boat in a couple of weeks as next week is expected to hit triple digits. Same boat minus the ass jiggling, mind you. I don't have an ass to jiggle.

HA! My word verifier is snott! HA! I'm seven all over again.

So, will you go to another Zumba class? Purple face aside, was it fun? As for your AWOL garden mojo, maybe it went to the beach and is sipping mojitos. I'm sure it will return when the temperatures dip. Even around here, it's been getting so hot in the afternoons, I'm actually outside in the garden at 7:30am (usually I've barely made coffee by then)! Can't stand to be out after about noon, and it's the only way I can get anything done. However, I don't have that wretched thing called humidity to deal with. Hope you can stay cool over the holiday weekend!

Hi Kyna,

I have heard of Zumba, but didn't know what it was until now :-)

I am with you - about this time each summer, I lose interest in gardening. Somehow my interest in gardening is directly related to the weather ;-) I hope you get your gardening mojo back soon....

I'm exhausted just reading your post! My idea of relaxing from the heat does not involve working up a sweat! My garden and I are both suffering from the heat and humidity. The stalwart crepe myrtles are blooming, but not much else. It is so moist and hot, it does feel like a jungle, and the air smells of damp earth and mildew. I dream of fall!

In that heat, I'd be hiding inside too! Sounds like you found a fun way to spend the day. Happy Canada Day!

Thanks for the picture of your ass-it's super cute! Doesn't he (she?) object to all the shaking though? Geez, sorry! A month of radio silence and this is what I come back with!

I'm so glad someone is talking about this! Kyna, it's been a bad heatwave for early summer, even for someone raised down here, and the fact that it was continuous, without a break for so many days in a row, has worn on me big time.

I feel like I was deprived of one of my favorite times in the garden, June, and lately I just don't want to weed. I don't want to do much of anything outside. I feel tired just stepping out into the humidity -- although a "cold" front has moved in here today, so that our high was only 89. Woohoo! ;)

I so feel your pain! When you're not into it, you're just not into it!
Maybe Zumba stole your mojo?

Becca: Well, it's finally 'cooled' down a little, thank goodness. I'll take a drop into the 80's for sure!

Byddi: Forget your mojo, I think you sound like your whole life is 'walkabout' lol! Nice to meet you :D

Turling: I don't know, I think everyone has a little summ-m summ-m to shake...
As for reverting to a 7 year old...I do that about 7 times a day :D

CVF: Yes, I think I actually might! I told my friend I'd have to train for it though LOL. I wasn't the only person in that class with a tomato-face...I thought I'd feel more sore today, maybe it just hasn't hit me yet. I wasned to take a nap last night at work though LOL

Laura: It was pretty fun! I was kind of freaked out about it before I went. I love doing something new, I just hate LEARNING something new. ;)

Dreamybee: Oh no, is shaking my ass against the law? O_O I don't want Animal Protective Services at my door...

Meredith: Well I'm glad that I'm not the only person that has been having a hard time of the heat. My husband has lived here for over 30 years (he was a Yankee lol) and normally he's all right with the temps. This year it's been hard for him too...he does drywall, so he has to work in those nasty outdoor conditions all day. I don't know how he does it without passing out lol.

Dirty Girl: My mojo was gone before I found Zumba lol. In fact, I've been lucky I've had something to write about at all. I think I may have to expand my blog to talkig about other things. Well, I guess I've been doing that anyway, haven't I? lol. Hope I don't get kicked off Blotanical :P

Hey, Kyna! I've done Zumba...your description is perfect!!! I now find many excuses not to do it again. If I'm going to do that much, I think I need a glass or two of wine first, which doesn't mix well with exercise or fat reduction.
My garden is neglected right now, too. No need to worry. The heat will pass and the weeds will still be there to pull. :)

If only the plants would grow as fast as the weeds, all our gardening prayers would be answered!

K, you know what this reminds me of? School. Cause every school year I'd have my nice shiny new notebooks and pens and highlighters and crap, and every year I'd vow to be the most organized, on the ball, unmessy student ever with no stray papers around. A resolution that lasted about six weeks.

Well gardening is the same. Every year I vow to get on them weeds early and often, and be a dedicated frequent care taker. I'd water and weed and feed and pamper, man. Until that resolution also falls by the wayside about six weeks into it. Is there a name for this phenomenon?

Haha, you and I could have been BFF's. I remember when those zipper binders first came out, it was a godsend for my disorganized self. Because none of my binder paper was actually IN THE RINGS, it was all loose. And I could just zip the binder around it without it all falling out. LOL But I did put in the effort at first...I think maybe my resolve lasted about 3 weeks ;)
